Dr. Ayanna Davis is a Compton resident whose family history of public service — spanning sharecropper grandparents, a school district custodian grandfather, a city worker mother, and a fire captain stepfather — shaped her deep commitment to working families and community. Growing up amid gang violence, she channeled those early experiences into a career dedicated to education equity, working three jobs to earn her USC undergraduate degree before going directly into teaching.

As an educator and administrator, Davis built a 20-year record of concrete impact — co-founding an accessible preschool and workforce development center in Watts in 2004, leading two early education centers as principal, and serving as President of the Early Education Principal Organization. Elected to the Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2022, she has helped drive the district to a #1 ranking in LA County among comparable districts.

A lifelong union member across every phase of her career — United Teachers of Los Angeles, then Teamsters Local 2010 — Davis has fought for educator pay, pandemic support, and defined work hours. Active in Democratic Party and community organizations, she holds three advanced degrees including an Ed.D. from USC's Rossier School and was named AD-65 Woman of the Year in 2025. She lives in Compton with her son Joshua, a practicing family therapist.

Dr. Davis and the "Compton Turnaround”

Compton students are leading in graduation rates!

Under Dr. Davis's leadership, Compton Unified achieved the highest graduation rate in L.A. County and top test scores statewide among comparable schools. While most low-income districts across California fell behind during the pandemic, Compton Unified's students gained half a grade level — a remarkable feat that caught the attention of educators nationwide. The district's forward-thinking approach earned it the National School Boards Association's 2025 Magna Award Grand Prize, one of the most prestigious honors in public education.

Services

DR. DAVIS SHARES OUR PRIORITIES:

Workforce Education

image.png

Dr. Davis's top priority is to improve the quality of life for working families by advancing apprenticeship and workforce development programs to train local residents for good-paying jobs in construction, healthcare, auto repair and the food industry.

Protecting Wages + Benefits

image.png

As the daughter of union members and a longtime union member herself, Dr. Davis understands the importance of respecting workers and ensuring fair wages. In the Assembly, she will fight to raise wages, improve workplace protections and expand healthcare and retirement benefits for California workers.

Stopping ICE and Trump

image.png

As a local school board member Dr. Davis fought against ICE and Trump from invading our schools. She has enacted policies that protect immigrant students and keep ICE out of neighborhood schools. Dr. Davis is committed to expanding access to quality legal services to ensure  immigrant families are treated with dignity and compassion.

Healthcare Reform

image.png

Every Californian deserves healthcare that is timely, affordable, and close to home — yet for too many in underserved communities, that reality remains out of reach. Dr. Davis will fight to transform our healthcare system into one that truly serves all people, free from the burden of medical debt.
